Privacy policy
Last updated 29 October 2026
Breathwood is a meditation and breathing app for iPhone and iPad. This policy explains what data the app and this website handle, why, and what you can do about it. In short: without an account, your data stays on your device. We don't sell data, show ads, track you or use third-party analytics.
Who we are
Breathwood is made by Jan Brazda, the controller of your personal data. Contact: [email protected].
On your device
Your practice history, your tree, favorites, reminders and settings are stored on your device and shared only with Breathwood's widgets on the same device. We don't receive them. Deleting the app deletes them, and Settings › Reset all progress deletes your history at any time. Reminders are local notifications scheduled on the device.
Optional account and sync
If you sign in with Apple or Google, we store:
- your email address, your name if the sign-in provider shares it, and an account ID;
- your practice: what you practiced, when, for how long and whether you finished, and breath-hold times from breathing exercises;
- practice outside the app that you add, with your note;
- your favorites and the days you planted a new tree.
We use this only to sync your history between your devices (legal basis: performing our agreement with you, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). It is stored by our hosting provider Supabase in Frankfurt, Germany (EU), which processes it on our behalf. Apple or Google handle the sign-in itself under their own privacy policies; Sign in with Apple can hide your email address.
We keep this data until you delete your account. Settings › Account and sync › Delete account deletes the account and everything synced with it straight away; copies in our provider's backups expire shortly after.
Community statistics
With an account, the app can tell you that you practiced more minutes in the last 30 days than a share of Breathwood users. For that, our server works out percentiles from everyone's minutes and sends the app only those aggregate numbers, never anyone's individual data, and only once at least 100 people practice (legal basis: our legitimate interest in showing encouraging, anonymous statistics).
Weather on your tree (optional)
If you turn on Settings › Local weather on the tree, the app asks for your approximate location, rounds it to about 10 km on your device and sends only that to Apple's weather service (WeatherKit) to get the current weather. Apple uses it only to provide the weather and doesn't link it to your Apple Account; it isn't linked to your Breathwood account either, and we never receive it. Like any web service, Apple sees your IP address when the app connects.
Apple Health (optional)
With Settings › Save to Health on, finished sessions are saved to Apple Health as mindful minutes. Breathwood only writes to Health and never reads from it. This data stays in Health on your device and isn't sent to us.
Downloads
Meditations and sounds that aren't built into the app are downloaded from our content server, and the app checks there for an updated list of content. Like any web server, it sees your IP address and which files are requested. We don't link this to you or use it for anything else.
Supporting Breathwood
The supporter subscription and tips are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details; the app checks on your device whether you're a supporter.
Emails to us
If you write to us, we use your email address and message only to reply. Settings › Send feedback fills in the app version, device model and iOS version; you can delete them before sending. We keep the conversation only as long as it takes to help you.
This website
breathwood.app sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from other sites. Our web host processes your IP address to deliver the pages and protect them from abuse.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access to your data, a copy of it, its correction or deletion, and you can restrict or object to its processing. Write to [email protected]. You can also complain to a data protection authority; in the Czech Republic that's the Office for Personal Data Protection (uoou.gov.cz).
Children
We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you think a child has created an account, write to us and we'll delete it.
Changes
When this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
